Autumn 1 2023

Our topic for this half term is the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age. We will be learning about these time periods in our History lessons. Linking to this topic, we will be going on a year group trip to Flag Fen. In English, we will be writing a historical narrative and a non-chronological report using the texts 'The First Drawing' and 'The Pebble in My Pocket'. In guided reading, we will be exploring the texts 'Stone Age Boy', 'The True Story of the Three Little Pigs' and 'Stig of the Dump'. In our Maths lessons we will be learning about number and place value up to 1000. After this, we will be looking at how to add and subtract. The children will be given their usernames and password details for TTRockstars to practise their times tables. Our Science topic is Rocks for this half term. We will be learning about the three different types of rocks and the process of how fossils are formed. We will be exploring how to use charcoal in art, allowing the children to create cave drawings inspired by those in the Stone Age. Within RE, we will be studying 'The Importance of Jesus' including his life and stories about the miracles he performed. Our two topics for PE will be dance and sustained activity. Our dance unit will be inspired by machines and this will be performed as a group and in partners. The focus of the sustained activity unit is for children to improve their fitness levels and to set personal challenges. Our first topic in PSHE is beginning and belonging. This will look into settling into a new school class and the adults they have to support them. The second topic will be family and friends. The children will learn about friendship and how they can be a good friend.

In English, we will be writing a discussion based on ‘Into the Forest’ by Anthony Browne. The children will be considering whether the main character should take the short but dangerous route through the forest or the longer, more boring route to Grandma’s house; this will link to our learning about personal safety. In Maths, we are covering a range of topics including statistics and shape.

Summer 1 2022

Our overarching theme for this half-term is the Ancient Egyptians. We will begin by learning about all the types of people who lived in this amazing place and build upon this knowledge across our other subjects. In English, we will be writing diaries as if we were Tomb Raiders who are going to find a Pharaoh’s Tomb and in DT, we are making bread (which was first made by the Egyptians). If you have any Ancient Egyptian books or knowledge you would like to bring into the classrooms, please do!

In Maths we are covering a range of topics including fractions and shape. Science is all about ‘Light’, culminating in a Shadow Puppet Show and RE looks at Islam. Please be aware that PSHE this term focuses on our bodies, for more information, please read the letter sent out last half term.

 Spring 2 2022

This half term we will be continuing our work on the Water Cycle, focusing on how we use water in domestic settings and how we can use water more sustainably. This will feed into our DT where we will create 'pop-up' books about our geography learning.

We will become experts on levers and moveable elements! ICT will be focused on databases and French will be all about animals and pets. We are excited to be looking at playscripts in English and Maths will be about measure and data. We will also be having a big push on arithmetic skills.

Finally, we are fortunate that this half term we will be practising our cricket skills on Fridays as well as having our usual P.E. sessions on Wednesdays. Make sure P.E. kits are in for both days please!
