Welcome to our page for Year 5 children!
This half term, we will be learning about ‘all things Ancient Greece’! History will take the lead focus as we learn about the legacy left by the Ancient Greeks. We will be creating our own Greek pottery and will be designing and then making our own Greek sandals. We will also be exploring the human and physical geography of modern Greece and how this differs to ancient times. Using a variety of Ancient Greek myths, we will be exploring the features before writing our own. We will focus on place value of numbers to one million in Maths, before moving on to addition and subtraction. As part of Science, we will be exploring Earth and Space and in RE, we will be looking at Christianity and how the stories from the Bible impact daily Christian life.
Year Five have been thoroughly enjoying learning about Ancient Greece this half term. They have read many myths including Daedalus and Icarus, Theseus and the Minotaur and Perseus and the Gorgons. They have also compared Athens and Sparta and have produced a piece of persuasive writing stating which city they would prefer to live in. In geography, they have learnt all about the geographical features of modern day Greece. We are now looking forward to finding out about the origins of the Olympic Games and about the God and Goddesses who feature in the myths we have been reading.
