Year 2 had the opportunity to take part in a Gymnastics Festival.

The event involved children rotating around a circuit of activities which focused on developing basic gymnastic skills and movement.

On Friday 22nd November 36 Key Stage 2 children attended the annual Fenland and East Cambs Cross Country event at Littleport School. This year the event was twice as big as previous years and 17 schools entered the competition with about 70 children in each race! The children were very excited about representing the school and were filled with huge enthusiasm on the morning of the event.

It was a very muddy, slippery morning and every child made it around the course, there were some brilliant examples of determination and self-belief. Everyone pushed themselves to achieve their best and they should all be extremely proud of their performances on the day. It was wonderful to see the hard work we had put into training had paid off. Every child thought of a race plan and had reserved energy to have a final sprint at the end of the race to storm past the other competitors!

On the 11th November the Year 1 children had the opportunity to take part in a Fundamentals of PE event.   The event was designed to teach children the fundamental movement skills which are the ‘building blocks’ for more complex skills that children need throughout their lives. The children rotated around a circuit of games and activities which focused on them developing these basic movement skills.

On Friday 8th November children represented the school in a Tag Rugby festival. They demonstrated great skill making, some really good runs and dodges to eventually come 4th. It was a very close competition! The festival ended with all the teams and workers voting for the school who demonstrated the best ‘Sporting Values.’ We all felt very honoured and proud to belong to Kingsfield School when our school was nominated. Well done to all the children who represented the school and showed such great ‘Sporting Spirit!’

In September we were very lucky to have Peterborough United Football Club visit the school.  As part of the visit, all pupils were issued with a ticket that allowed them and one adult to attend a Peterborough United League One fixture, FREE of charge!

During our Healthy Living Week in the Summer Term we were very lucky to have two para athletes visit us. They shared with us their experience of being a professional athlete and the obstacles they have faced being an athlete with a disability. Stu and Lindsey who came to visit us train with the Paralympic British Canoeing Team and Stu had made the time trials to represent the UK in the World Championship competition in Hungary in August. We are all very proud of his achievements and wanted to share with the children the exciting news that he got a bronze medal at the World Championships and it was an incredibly close race as he was only 1 second behind the winner!

On Thursday 4th July Kingsfield School ran their annual football tournament.  Five teams entered into the competition and all were very enthusiastic!  All teams were mixed with boys and girls and the children had to go through trials and then training to get picked for the team.

The team consisted of children with a range of skills and the more experienced players helped coach and support the more inexperienced players.

All the children worked hard and had many goals on target.  The final match of the competition was very close and either team could have won.   The children showed passion and commitment throughout all the games.
